'Floyd may be using Pacquiao to get Cinco de Mayo'

Floyd just wants the fight date, says Kellerman

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Jr. may only be using Manny Pacquiao as a ''pawn'' to get the May 2 fight date which coincides with the Mexican holiday ''Cinco de Mayo,'' according to HBO color commentator Max Kellerman.
Kellerman said the Cinco de Mayo weekend is important for Mayweather because the most popular boxer traditionally fights on that date.
“Cinco de Mayo, that weekend is the signature of the biggest fighter in boxing,” Kellerman said in Tha Boxing Voice.
Kellerman thinks Mayweather was already aware that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto are fighting on the Cinco de Mayo weekend when the American boxer demanded that his super fight with Pacquiao take place on May 2.
“I believe the reason Floyd is so seriously engaging with the Pacquiao talks now is [he doesn’t want to lose the date to Cotto-Canelo], otherwise Floyd, for the first time in six or seven years, can get bumped by a bigger fight. So if he fights Pacquiao he bumps them,” speculated the analyst.
But Kellerman said Mayweather is likely to fight another boxer on May 2. He thinks “Money Mayweather” will be saving Pacquiao for a latter date for lengthier promotion time.
“I do not believe he will fight Pacquiao in May, it’s too soon to get the promotion going the way [it needs to be done], he’ll fight like Amir Khan or someone like that in May, but have that date for him using Pacquiao as leverage to scare the other fight off,” he said.
''Then, I believe Floyd and Pacquiao, if they both win their next fights, will fight in September [of next year].''
