Manny Pacquiao is still convinced that he clearly won in his first showdown with Timothy Bradley, and the former pound-for-pound king vowed to settle the score in their rematch.
Pacquiao, who will face Bradley in a rematch on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, vowed to make the undefeated American pay for saying that he has lost his hunger and killer instinct.
The Filipino boxing icon said that Bradley seemed to have lit the fire in him again, saying that, on fight night, Bradley will face the same fighter who defeated boxing greats like Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Erik Morales, and Marco Antonio Barrera.
“I have all the respect for Bradley and what he has accomplished but I have no fear of him,” Pacquiao said, via BoxingScene. “He has inspired me to exceed my previous performances inside the ring. If Bradley wants to meet the fighter who stopped Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera, he’s going to get his wish on Saturday.”
Pacquiao is being criticized for being too compassionate in his previous fights, particularly in his last bout against Brandon Rios. The 35-year-old champion looked poise to score a knockout against Rios, but Pacquiao opted not to go for the kill, and run away with a decision win instead.
But while he is looking to stop Bradley in their rematch, Pacquiao, who has not scored a knockout win since his stoppage win against Miguel Cotto in 2009, vowed not to get reckless.
Pacquiao said that he won’t force a knockout to avoid suffering the same fate that he had during his fourth showdown with rival Juan Manuel Marquez in December 2012 in which he absorbed a devastating sixth-round knockout loss.
“The one thing I learned from my fight against Marquez was patience,” Pacquiao said. “When I had him teetering I became reckless and went in to finish him. I was careless and he landed the perfect punch. That was learning a lesson the hard way. But I learned it.”
